Server Requirements

To run the Roofstick Real Estate Management Platform smoothly, your server must meet the following minimum requirements.

Minimum Server / OS Requirements

  • OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS / 22.04 LTS, Debian, CentOS, or any standard Linux distribution.
  • RAM: Minimum 2 GB (4 GB or higher recommended for production).
  • CPU: 2 vCore or higher.
  • Disk Space: Minimum 20 GB SSD.

Software Requirements

  • Node.js: v18.x or higher (Required for Express v5 and Next.js).
  • MongoDB: v5.0 or higher.
  • Package Manager: npm (v9.x+) or yarn (v1.22+).
  • Web Server: Nginx or Apache (for reverse proxy).
  • Process Manager: pm2 (recommended for keeping both the frontend and backend servers alive).
  • TypeScript: The project uses TypeScript, so having it installed globally or letting the package manager handle it is necessary.

Required Environment Configuration

You must configure the .env files properly in both the frontend and backend directories. Key configurations include:

  • PORT (backend API port)
  • DATABASE_URL (MongoDB connection string)
  • JWT_SECRET (Secure secret for authentication)
  • NEXT_PUBLIC_BACKEND_URL and NEXT_PUBLIC_SOCKET_URL (in the frontend).
  • NODE_ENV=production

Other Dependencies

  • Git (for version control and easy deployment).
  • SSL Certificate (Let's Encrypt or similar) for HTTPS support.
